our newest addition

We added a standard poodle to our already crazy family! We love the social, emotional and physical benefits animals have on children/people we have always had pets. We have seen amazing calming effects from animals for our children and even had our son in therapeutic horseback riding a few years ago. Friends of ours have a golden doodle and we saw the same soothing effect again for our kids so we began looking into getting a larger dog for our family. We wanted something that didn't shed, was loyal, smart, trainable and could handle lots of kids/chaos. We hope to train our puppy as a companion/emotional therapy dog -the goal is to help soothe our own emotionally challenged children and provide outlet for momma too! Then we plan to take him to the children's hospital we use for blessing #6, food pantry's, nursing homes and possibly a reader dog at a library or school.

We researched a lot! It was important to us to make sure we were getting a puppy with a good pedigree because then we hope to have temperament that is consistent with poodles. So we interviewed many breeders (even lost a small deposit-there are so many unethical breeders and puppy mills out there), found out how many litters they had a year, checked on health testing for both parents both of his parents(were glad that both of his parents are grand champions), kept the puppy with the mom at least eight weeks (or more) and was well socialized....after months of searching we finally found a breeder the next state over from us with one puppy left from current litter. Hubby is so patient with me (and loves me lots) so he agreed to go check the puppy out! The day came when we were going to meet the puppy and his mom...we loaded the kids up in the van with lots of snacks and movies and drove 4 1/2 hours to the breeder (who is a vet also). The puppy seemed to have the temperament that we were looking for and his mom was spot on what we were looking for...Blessing #5 wanted to take the mom home! We came home with our new friend that day!

So introducing.....Victor Hugo (Hugo)

love how he is sitting and watching Blessings 5 & 6 outside playing

Weekend to Remember

Hubby and I had the opportunity to attend Family Life Today - Weekend to Remember this year. We rarely have the chance to get away together alone so this was very nice. It was a great time mostly because we had the whole weekend to talk uninterrupted! The weekend is to encourage couples where ever they are at in there lives. We volunteered and were informed that you have engaged couples coming, couples who just want to have a get away, couples who need help and some even in crisis where this weekend is their last attempt to save their marriage. We have always felt strongly about staying married for life and we felt like we have a pretty good relationship. Not perfect one - we don't expect that with two sinners marrying each other. However we started feeling like something was missing mainly because of the busy in our day to day life and our connection was not as good. We always will love each other but we want to be each others best friend and like each other when (someday) its just the two of us.We went mostly to spend time alone and get new tools to help improve our relationship. On the way there we list four specific goals / prayers for the weekend and all four were answered! God is always so good. We left the weekend with a renewed vision for our marriage and a better oneness. I am thankful to walk this life with my hubby there is no one I would rather wake up to and spend each day with.

Update: If you are interested in attending any Weekend to Remember we have a discount code for $100.00 off any weekend. Recently we joined this ministry team so email us at ncetcparenttrainers@gmail.com and we would love to give you the discount code.

thank you friends - if were honest

This song by Francesca Battistelli makes me think of two sweet friends from embrace adoption group - thank you for starting up this group again and coming every month. Thank you for letting me(and hubby) be honest and not judging or rejecting me but rather you listened, prayed, texted, emailed, offered dinner and child care. You both encouraged us in so many ways and were trusting that God was going to do something beautiful with the struggle-thank you.
Just to know you understood and allowed me to bring my brokenness - love can heal what hurt divides...and there is mercy on the other side. So thank you for allowing me to be honest. God has used you two in mighty ways in my heart. I am blessed to know you both.

If were Honest - Francesca Battistelli

Truth is harder than a lie
The dark seems safer than the light
And everyone has a heart that loves to hide
I'm a mess and so are you
We've built walls nobody can get through
Yeah, it may be hard, but the best thing we could ever do, ever do

Bring your brokenness, and I'll bring mine
'Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy's waiting on the other side
If we're honest
If we're honest

Don't pretend to be something that you're not
Living life afraid of getting caught
There is freedom found when we lay
our secrets down at the cross, at the cross

Bring your brokenness, and I'll bring mine
'Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy's waiting on the other side
If we're honest
If we're honest

It would change our lives
It would set us free
It's what we need to be

Bring your brokenness, and I'll bring mine
'Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy's waiting on the other side
If we're honest
If we're honest
